Mexico vs Poland Game Reviews

The game started off with Mexico on the front foot and starting to dominate possession and soon they had the first chance of the game Vega steering his effort wide after attacking the front post. After than Poland had an attack of their own with Lewandoski heading from a corner only for it to deflect off the chest of Sanchez and travel wide. The Mexican side were dominating this game whilst their opponents haven’t found their rhythm, yet it was looking more likely that the Mexican side were going to score.

They came close again to scoring as in the twenty sixth minute Vega came close again as his header drifted wide of the target. Then two minutes later the Mexican side came close again as Chavez clipped a ball over to Gallardo, but Szczesny did enough to push it away it was looking like the Mexican side would be scoring soon and their opponents were so out of it. Lozano had the last chance of the half for his side which almost caught Szczesny out, but he managed to tip the ball over.

Half time and 0-0 the polish side are lucky to still be in the game as their opponents have dominated from start to finish and have just not been clinical with the chances they have created and if they were then they would’ve been cruising through. Second half and Poland have started to play a bit better and creating more chances, but they haven’t done enough to pressure their opponents. The first chance of the second half went to the Mexican side as Lozano’s curling strike was easily saved by Szczesny. The polish side started to apply pressure and it paid off as Moreno grappled Lewandowski in the box and the ref had no choice but to give it a pen.

The ref brandished Moreno a yellow card as he awards Poland a chance to take an undeserving lead. Lewandowski stepped up and his pen was saved by the experienced Mexican goalkeeper in Ochoa that was surely the chance for Poland to take a surprising lead and for him to get his first world cup goal. Both teams were trying to push for the goal that could win them the game but sadly no one was coming close as both of their defences were looking comfortable. In the end it was a 0-0 draw, and it was slightly deserved as neither team could take their chances when they were presented to both sides.

Man of the match: Hirving Lozano

It was a good performance by him as he was running the Poland defence ragged and he was unlucky to not score a goal today as he came so close to on numerous occasions. His stats for the game were good as he completed more dribbles than anyone else and he won the most duals as well which shows us that he had an exceptional game, and he will hopefully emulate them sort of performances which could give them a chance to qualify for the next stage.

Flop of the match: Jakub Kaminski

It was not a good game for the youngster as he failed to create many chances for his side, and he couldn’t complete a single dribble in the whole 90 minutes which isn’t good enough at all he only won 4 of his 11 ground duals which is also not good enough and he will hopefully want to put this game behind him and play better in the next group games or Poland could look like heading out early.

The stats are no surprise as Mexico absolutely dominated Poland in every aspect of this game but it’s such a shame, they couldn’t take their chances which would’ve put the game to bed for them in the first half. Poland only had forty percent possession which is poor to their standard and they will hopefully want to work on that if they want to get out of the group. Overall, a draw was a fair result as neither side took their chances or worked hard enough for the win.
