This game started with Spain dominating and they soon had the first chance of the game as Dani Olmo latched onto a pass by Pedri but all he could do was steer it wide of the post. Then a few minutes later he made up for that missed chance as he gave the Spaniards the lead as Gavi’s chipped balled got deflected into his path and from there it was only going to go in one place and that was the back of the net, and it was well deserved after they’ve dominated the game so far and their opponents have barely had a touch of the ball yet. The Spaniards were having a brilliant game and it was about to get even better as it was soon 2-0 as Jordi Alba’s low cross was met by Asensio who reacted first to sweep the hall ball and to get his side’s second of the game this was looking like a battering already and we haven’t reached half time yet.
Then ten minutes later they got a pen as Alba tempted Duarte into a desperate lunge which made him bring down the left back. Torres made no mistake with the pen coolly dinking it past Navas to score his side’s third of the game just before half time. Half time and this game was all Spain as they have been dominating the whole half and it could turn even bad for Costa Rica if they don’t work harder in the second half.
The second half started as the first half did as Spain were still dominating and it was soon going to get even better as a few minutes later they found their fourth goal of this game as from bad defending from their opponents as he bundled himself into the box to score his second of the game and his side’s fourth. This was starting to look embarrassing for their opponents as they have barely had a sniff the whole game as it’s been all Spain. They were showing no mercy and were still looking on the hunt to make it five and they almost did as Morata could only fire wide from the through ball played by Azpilicueta. Then a few minutes later it was five and what a goal it was as Gavi fired a sweet volley from outside the box to guide it into the right-hand post there was no stopping that. This was a battering from the Spaniards, and it was some of the best football they’ve played in a while.
Spain were smashing it and it showed as they were still scoring as they made it six in the ninetieth minute as substitute Solar as he coolly steered the ball into the bottom corner to add more misery onto their opponents. Then soon they found a seventh goal as Morata finally got the goal, he’s been looking for the whole game as he latched onto Olmo’s through ball and slotted it past Navas this was a mauling of the highest and it ended 7-0.
Man of the match: Pedri
I could’ve chosen his other teammate in Gavi but I went for him as he was exceptional today and lead the midfield well he may of not got a goal contribution to show for the amazing game he had but he never stopped running the time he was on, and it showed as he won all his ground duals and nearly completed all 89 passes, he has and he created the most chances in the game. It was a stellar performance from the golden boy and this tournament can only go up for him as he’s only nineteen and has a big future ahed of him if he keeps them sort of performances up.
Flop of the match: Keylor Navas
It wasn’t a good game for the experienced goalkeeper as he conceded seven goals, and he was at fault for a few of them. He also made only one save the whole game which is just as embarrassing especially for a guy who used to be Madrid’s number one and someone who has three champions league medals. If his side want to progress and do well like they did at their last world cup they’re going to have to put in a better shift and performance as that simply wasn’t good enough from them.
The stats were all dominated by Spain which no one can be surprised about as they dominated from start to finish having seventeen shots and eight on target whilst their opponents couldn’t even register a shot the whole ninety minutes which just goes to show how dominating the Spaniards were. The possession stats are the same as well as costa Rica could only master up eighteen percent possession the whole game which is even embarrassing especially for a side who’s playing at a world cup overall it was a deserved win for Spain who will hopefully want to make this a campaign they won’t forget.
